As i finish this book sadness overcomes me. The main character did intend found Ishmael and they resume what they were doing before but in a different conduction. Ishmael went back to the circus and is now locked up in a cage viewed as an animal. This didn't make any difference to the main character. He really wanted to finish up. So Ishmael went on, telling the main character the difference between the takers and the leavers. Soon the main character discover something new. "The taker are those who know good and evil and the leavers are those who live in the hands of the gods. Ishmael explain that even when the world was made, it wasn't just made for men. It was made for everything and that everything belonged to the world. But the takers who are us, our culture believed that the world belonged to us. There is tons of example of this. We BUY land and we throw TRASH all over the place. We live in this world as if its ours but it really isn't. We kill off everything that we don't need. That unless if they're useful to us then we don't want them. BUT that's not the bad part. The bad part is that we KILLLLL them. People back in the old days (those who hunted and gathered) only took things that they needed. Hunted animals because they had to get something to eat. NEVER have they took what isn't needed. This is whats wrong with our culture and THIS is the reason that things got to this way NOW. =)
It took me a few tries to fit everything that the author was throwing it me, but with some careful reading i got to the point. I'm very disappointed that Ishmael died because i love happy endings but i guess that dont happen so often. I loved this quote from the book, "WITH MAN GONE WILL THERE BE HOPE FOR GORILLA, WITH GORILLA GONE WILL THERE BE HOPE FOR MEN?"
I feel like that we all need each other in someways or form. Just like the world needs us to help it.
brilliant analysis of the final pages of the book. I'm glad you enjoyed the read!
